Swamp cooler is an informal name for an evaporative air cooler. The name swamp cooler probably came from the fact that an evaporative cooler adds humidity, or moisture, to the air. Now these coolers come in portable versions so that you can take your cooler with you.
Maybe you have been surviving the heat by using fans in the rooms of your home or business. Maybe you have a cabin that you don’t use often enough to install a permanent cooler. Or perhaps you have thought about getting an air conditioner but you’re concerned about the costs that would be involved. Well, if you live in a hot, dry climate, then you can save energy and money while staying cool with a portable swamp cooler. As hot, dry air passes through damp pads, the water cools the air by as much as 30 degrees. The pads in the cooler also act as an air purifier or ionizer by trapping dust and pollutant particles before they can enter your home or office. Then that cooler, cleaner air is circulated around the room.
There are swamp coolers that can be installed in a window frame, similar to a window air conditioner. But portable swamp coolers come in a wide range of sizes and strengths that can meet your needs. You can get units that are light enough to carry from room to room as you need them. Or, some units come on wheels to make it easier to move your cooler around your home or office with you. One added benefit of portable swamp coolers is that most of them run on standard 120 V of electricity, so that they can be plugged into any standard outlet. This isn’t true with all air conditioners that are not only heavy, but might need a special plug and so can’t be moved around conveniently.
Because portable swamp coolers work by evaporating water into hot, dry air, the cooler will work well anywhere that these conditions can be met. You can even use it outdoors for special projects or gatherings. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to make sure that your safety is ensured, but soon you’ll be coming up with all sorts of uses for your portable swamp cooler.
